Glossybox May 2012

This post is very late as I have just got my June box today. Once I've had a little go at some of the products, I will do a post on that one. May's box was Glossybox's 1st Birthday so the products seemed to have a bit of a party theme.

Pretty birthday tissue paper
I quite liked my box but some other people got some really great products in theirs but that is the luck of the draw with Glossybox.

1. Lolita Lempicka perfume samples - Lolita Lempicka EDP and Si Lolita EDP
I thought they were quite nice scents, both floral. Si Lolita appealed to me more but they didn't last that long on my skin. My skin eats perfume.

2. Noble Isle Summer Rising bath and shower gel
This smells really nice and Summery. It reminds me of walking through fields where my boyfriend lives in Sussex. It has a floral and slightly grassy scent but it is subtle and feels really calming.

3. Apivita Express Beauty with Honey facemasks
Thankfully I got masks for dry skin. They are really lovely and made my skin feel soft and nourished. I will be purchasing them again when my skin needs to be perked up.

4. Berber Oil Hair Treatment with Argan Oil
This smells delicious. I like hair oils as I have dry hair although I often forget to use them. The make such a difference to my hair when I remember. It is nice to have one that smells great too.

5. Eldora False Eyelashes
Weellllll... erm... I will never wear these. Hahaha. They are huge and I will feel so uncomfortable with them on so unless I end up going to some mad fancy dress party, these will remain in their box. False eyelashes aren't really something I use anyway because I suck at putting them on but when I have worn them, I've gone for styles which just add more volume and a little more length. The glitter stuck on them looks like it would fall off into my eyes too - my camera makes it look better than they actually are as the glitter is sort of globbed on.

6. Glossybox promotional mirror
This is handy :)

Glossybox April 2012

A lot of people seem to be saying the same thing about the delivery of this box, it took such a long time for them to send it... not to mention that they took money way before they dispatched it. I wasn't happy about that and I don't think it is very professional.

Anyway, Aprils box is the natural edition. It contains environmentally friendly products which are natural or mostly natural all contained in a recyclable box and packaging. When I initially saw other people's boxes I wasn't that impressed but when I got mine, I liked it much better fortunately.

My box contained:

Ayuuri Natural Sandalwood Body Wash.
Glossybox description: 'The Ayuuri Natural skincare range is based on fruit, plant and flower extracts that have long been used in India to enhance skin's natural beauty.'

I'm not really that familiar with sandalwood, I'm not entirely sure how it smells. This smells quite soapy really, it has some sweetness and and underlying woodiness which I assume is the sandalwood. It's nice and is quite unisex. It isn't a strong scent either and I am happy with it. Other people received the coconut scented body wash but I'm glad I got this one instead as coconut is not a favourite of mine. This bottle is 200ml so is a substantial size. It seems it is a full size product according to the website pictures which also show the same volume but state that they are 235g in the description. It retails at £4.95.

Available at www.ayuuri.co.uk

Caudalie Vinosource SOS Thirst-Quenching Serum
Glossybox description: 'This newly-launched ultra-concentrated serum is extremely natural and plant-based, ensuring your skin never lacks moisture.'

I'm quite intrigued to try this, I have quite dry skin which I often have problems with. After I've used this for a while I will do a review on it. I'm hoping for good results. I love the packaging and the range looks beautiful. It sounds so high-tech compared to what I am used to using so I'm interested in looking at the range after testing this product out. This is 1/3 of the full size, containing 10ml of product compared to 30ml in the full size pump. A really good size to try out the product properly rather than piddling around with a stupid little pot which will only last 1-2 days and not give you any idea of how it is going to really work. The full size retails at £29 so this sample is worth around £9.66!

Available at www.caudalie.com/uk/ and feelunique.com

Inika Cosmetics Certified Organic Eye Liner in 06 Coco
Glossybox description: 'A rich and creamy consistency unparallelled in the world of natural liners.'

I've never used a natural eye liner so I can't compare the consistency to others but it is a soft creamy liner which isn't too creamy. It can be used for precision but it does smudge so might be best to use on the waterline or for smudgy eye liner or just a little definition between the lashes. I don't think it will work that well for creating strong cat liner flicks and it also might need to be set with some eye shadow to make it longer lasting. I like the colour, other people got black or a navy but I'm glad I got a brown which is dark. I don't like light brown liners as I have such dark hair and lashes that I just find they aren't dark enough to work on me. The full size retails at £11.75.

Kai Perfume Oil
Glossybox description: 'Our intoxicating signature perfume oil fragranced with Kai's light, intoxicating blend of gardenia wrapped in white exotics.'

I'm not really interested in this fragrance at all. It is white floral and I'm not really a fan of those sorts of scents. It isn't as strong as most white florals I've smelt though. It wont be something that I will be buying in the future and the price is so high for the amount that you get. The full size holds 3.6ml and retails for £41! So expensive!

Available at http://www.cultbeauty.co.uk

Figs & Rouge Balm for lips, face and body in Rambling Rose
Glossybox description: '100% Pure, 100% Natural & 100% Organic Multipurpose balm. Excellent for Soothing & Naturally Hydrating dry Lips & Skin.'

I got the Rambling Rose scented balm and it is rather strong smelling, really similar to Turkish delight. There were other scents in the boxes which I would have preferred but it is the luck of the draw with Glossybox. The balm has a strange texture, I was expecting it to be harder than it is. It is quite soft and slightly gritty. I've tried it on my lips and I don't find it that moisturising on my lips. I get very dry lips and especially at the moment when I've got a cold. This balm just isn't enough for me and the scent is quite off putting around my mouth. I don't mind strong rose in the bath or perfume/skincare but not so much around my mouth apart from a select few lip products which aren't that strong. I do like the vintage style packaging though.

Glossybox March 2012 - Harrods Edition

I always look at posts about Beauty Boxes and I'm always intrigued by them. I've never taken the plunge until now because this box looked so promising being a special collaboration with Harrods. I was not disappointed. So what did I get in mine?

First up, the moisturising contents:

SK-II Skin Signature Moisturiser deluxe sample. This is an anti-ageing cream, which at 22, I'm not sure I need to use yet but I will probably give it a go and see how it's moisturising benefits go. It is sooooo damn expensive to purchase however, I would never pay that much for a cream. This sample contains 15ml of product. The full size contains 80g and costs £127.

Clarins Extra-Firming Body Cream. This body cream has actually won a Cosmopolitan award for Best Body Firming Potion so I will be interested in finding out how well it works on areas such as my upper legs which are a little wobbly and could do with a little help. The full size retails at £39.50 which again, for me is far too much to pay for a body cream. This sample contains 30ml of product and the full size contains 200ml. This sample is worth £5.93.

Next the cleansing products:

Shu Uemura Cleansing Beauty Oil. I was a bit disappointed at this due to the tiny size of it, only 4ml worth in a little sachet. I thought it would be quite easy to go to a counter and pick up a tester of this there. Still this is enough for one use and to find out how well the product cleanses. The full size contains 150ml of product and costs £28. This sample is worth 75p.

Molton Brown Vitamin A, B and C Bath and Shower Gel. I've never really looked at Molton Brown products, the stores always look so nice and upmarket but I've never been into one. Not sure why because this smells so good. It is citrussy but has a green herbal undertone in it which I really like. A full size bottle costs £18 for 300ml of product. This sample contains 50ml so is worth £3.

Now onto the makeup/fragrance

Valentino Valentina EDP. I'd seen this advertised in magazines and thought the bottle was really nice. The perfume also smelt good. It says it has notes of bergamot, alba truffle, amalfi orange blossom, wild strawberry, cedarwoods and amber. Unfortunately it didn't last very long on my skin. The perfume retails at £71 for 100ml. This sample contained 1.5ml so was worth £2.11 Again, this is a sample that you could get at a counter.

Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara. I've been wanting to try one of the Hypnose mascara as they always look so impressive. I'm glad I got this in my box and it is a good size to take away on holiday or weekend trips. The full size costs £21 for 6.4ml and this sample contains 2ml which is worth around £6.50

Overall, I think this was quite a good box. It contained some lovely products to try. The full contents work out to around £18 without the SK-II cream (which I am unable to work out a price for due to the millilitres/gram measurements. Glossybox costs £10 a month plus £2.95 shipping. I look forward to the next box and hopefully I wont be disappointed.
